Typical Installation

Typical Installation

The typical installation process involves installing and configuring the IncrediBuild Agent on your local machine and connecting it to a remote IncrediBuild Coordinator. If a remote Coordinator is not available you will be able to install and configure IncrediBuild Coordinator on your local machine.

Notes:

Installing IncrediBuild on the First Machine

To install IncrediBuild:

  1. Download and run the IncrediBuild setup file.
    The Welcome screen appears.

  2. Click Next.
    The Setup Options screen appears.

  3. Select Install IncrediBuild and click Next.
    The License Agreement screen appears.

  4. Read the terms of the End User license agreement, confirm acceptance, and click Next.
    The Installation Options screen appears.

  5. Click Typical and then click Next.
    The Coordinator Selection screen appears.
  6. Do one of the following:

    • Select Connect to remote Coordinator if you wish to connect your locally installed IncrediBuild Agent to a remote Coordinator (i.e. add your Agent to an existing pool). Specify the Host Name or IP address and the TCP/IP port of the remote Coordinator.

    • Select Install Coordinator on your machine if you wish to install an IncrediBuild Coordinator on your own machine. Later you can connect other remote Agents to it.

  7. Click Next.
    The Agent Settings screen appears.

  8. Under CPU Configuration, ensure the auto-detected configuration is correct and edit it as needed by typing the correct configuration into the editable field.

  9. Under File Cache specify the maximum size of the IncrediBuild Agent file cache.

  10. Under Visual Studio Plug-in, select the checkbox to install the IncrediBuild add-in for MS Visual Studio IDE.

  11. Click Next.
The Agent Network Settings screen appears.

  12. Select one of the following:
    • Select Automatic Port Selection if you want IncrediBuild to automatically allocate ports for the locally installed IncrediBuild Agent (will be used to continuously send the machine’s status and resources’ utilization) and for contributing your machine's idle resources to other machines (every core in your machine will use a separate port for communication). Proceed to step 15 below.
    • Select Manual Port Selection if you wish to manually select the ports and proceed to the next step.
  13. In the Agent Service Port field, select the port number for the local agent service. This port will be used by the locally installed IncrediBuild Agent to continuously send the machine’s status and resources’ utilization.

  14. In the Helper Port field, select the first port number to be used when your machine contributes its idle resources to other machines. IncrediBuild will allocate consecutive ports for every core in your machine. For example, if you have 4 cores and you select port 31106, this port and ports 31107-31109 will be allocated.

  15. If there is a conflict between your network and one of the two default port settings, change the appropriate port number(s).
If necessary (i.e. there are multiple subnets in the network), mark the Automatically open the selected port on Windows Firewall if necessary checkbox so that you can adjust the exception list settings in the Windows Firewall program at the conclusion of the IncrediBuild installation.

  16. Click Next.
The Coordinator Network Settings screen appears.

  17. In the TCP/IP port field, select the TCP/IP port to be used by the locally installed IncrediBuild Coordinator. If there is a conflict between your network and the default port setting, change the value to a different port number, otherwise use the default port number.

  18. If necessary (i.e., there are multiple subnets in the network), select the Automatically open the selected port on Windows Firewall if necessary checkbox, so that you can adjust the exception list settings in the Windows Firewall program at the conclusion of the IncrediBuild installation.

  19. Click Next.
The Destination Folder Selection screen appears.

  20. If you wish to change the installation destination folder, click Browse, select the desired location and click OK/Save/Open.

It is recommended to select the Add folder to the system PATH environment variable checkbox, in order to ensure linkage to the IncrediBuild tools without having to specify the full path.

  21. Click Next.
    The following screen appears.

  22. Click Next.

The installation process will begin. At the end of the process you will be required to load your license.
Before loading your license, make sure that the machine running the Coordinator is connected to the internet, so it will be possible to register your license. Browse to your license file and load it.
Once it succesfully loaded, click Next.

  23. If you don't have a license yet or rather load it later, select the second option and click Next.
  24. In the Setup finish page, you can view the setup log. Uncheck "Display release notes" if you wish to skip viewing the release notes.
Click Finish to close the setup.

  25. Increasing the number of Agents in the pool will increase the acceleration. You should install additional Agents on your network and connect them to the same IncrediBuild Coordinator.

Installing an Agent on a Second Machine

Repeat the above procedure to install an Agent on a second machine. However, as only one Coordinator should be installed in a single development environment, in step 6, select the 'Connect to remote Coordinator' option.
