Like most areas of life, the C++ community has been a bit quiet for the last few years. But now it’s official: Cplusplus developers are emerging from hibernation.

In 2022, the usual roster of excellent C++ events is getting back on track, with plenty of opportunities for developers to network, develop their skills, and share their experiences.

But where should you begin?

We’ve combed through all the C++ events coming up this year to find the conferences you don’t want to miss.

CppCon

What is it?

CppCon is probably the most popular and well-known event for C++ developers. The week-long gathering aims to bring the whole community together – especially those from underrepresented groups and communities.

CppCon’s aim is simple: share insights and encourage the best use of C++. The varied program is designed to give everyone a chance to share insights and get advice, from novices just learning to code and compile C++, to experienced C++ devs looking to take their code to new heights.

Highlights from the agenda

CppCon prides itself on having something for everyone, so the schedule is pretty packed. Expect to see:

  • A keynote speech from the creator of C++, Bjarne Stroustrup, on the past, present and future of C++, with some tips and tricks to help make sure your code is both elegant and efficient.
  • Presentations from across the C++ community designed to share best practice tips, solve recurring problems and generally help you use C++ to its full potential.
  • Lightning talks, CppCon’s shorter, more relaxed presentations, designed to make it easy for those with less conference experience to present their ideas and insights in an informal setting.
  • Evening events and social time, where you can unwind, chat one-on-one about your C++ challenges or do a bit of light networking.

When is it?

September 11th-16th, 2022

Meeting C++

What is it?

Meeting C++ is always short but sweet, packing a huge number of insights into a one-day event. Expect talks and exchanges from some of the world’s foremost C++ experts.

Highlights from the agenda

The exact schedule is yet to be announced, but we know there’ll be keynote speeches from C++ standardization expert Nicolai Josuttis and large-scale software design guru Klaus Iglberger. We’re hoping to see some talks on hot-button issues like secure C++ coding practices or advice on C++ code review

When is it?

November 19th 2022

Where is it?

Berlin, Germany

Online, or face-to-face?

Mostly online, with a limited number of attendees joining from the venue in Berlin.

CppIndiaCon

What is it?

CppIndiaCon is new on the C++ scene (it’s only been running for two years), but it’s already making a big splash. It’s the perfect place to tap into India’s burgeoning C++ community and hear from people across the industry, including engineers, researchers, students and C++ trailblazers.

Highlights from the agenda

The agenda is yet to be announced, but last year’s event boasted talks from C++ inventor Bjarne Stroustrup, US programing language standards chair Bryce Lelbach, and expert C++ trainer Jon Kalb. In other words, we’re expecting great things from this year’s lineup.

When is it?

August 6th, 2022

Where is it?

Online

Online, or face-to-face?

To accommodate ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, the event is entirely online.

  1. CPP Summit China

What is it?

CPP Summit China centers around the concept of ‘Global experts, global wisdom’. In other words, they’re trying to bring C++ experts and educators from around the globe to share best practices, new applications, and educational content related to C++ and related tech stacks.

Highlights from the agenda

Bjarne Stroustrup, the creator of C++, will be delivering what will almost certainly be an inspiring keynote speech. He’ll be joined by his co-chairs: Boolan founder Jason Li, SG19 Standards Committee for C++/Codeplay VP Michael Wong, and Instruction Set CEO Aimin Pan.

This year’s agenda is divided into eight tracks:

  • Modern C++ languages
  • System software
  • Architecture and design evolution
  • High performance and low latency
  • Quality and efficiency
  • Engineering and toolchains
  • Embedded development
  • Distributed systems and network

When is it?

August 2022 (exact date seems to be unconfirmed)
