Decima Game Engine

Back to glossary  |  Decima Game Engine

The Decima engine was initially created by Guerilla Games and then improved further by Kojima Productions. It’s currently used for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Microsoft Windows game development.

History of Decima Engine

The Decima game engine traces its roots back to the Guerilla Games and its plan to create its stunningly successful PlayStation-exclusive franchise, Killzone.

Starting as an in-house engine for Guerilla Games, Decima evolved with each iteration of the studio’s titles. Gradually, it turned into a sophisticated platform capable of more diverse applications.

But it wasn’t until Hideo Kojima, the visionary behind Metal Gear Solid, adopted the engine for his enigmatic Death Stranding that Decima grabbed the industry’s attention. Kojima’s use of the engine to create a visually striking and narratively ambitious game underscored Decima’s potential to redefine what gaming could be.

Capabilities of the Decima Engine

Here are a few features and capabilities of Decima:

Realism through Advanced Visuals

Decima utilizes a state-of-the-art graphic pipeline, incorporating advanced techniques like photogrammetry, shader work, and real-time rendering to deliver exceptional graphics.
